Some kids pushed my motorcycle over in a parking lot and cracked the plastics, will insurance cover the parts and labor for fixing it or am I on my own? Are there any consequences for making a claim to my insurance? Thanks.

  1. That is what insurance is for.  If you have no fault, then your insurance company should cover it (theft, vandelism, accidents etc).  The only consequences are depending upon the insurance company you have.  Some don't slight your for a first time incident, others increase your premium.  I think you should be good to go since it was an act of vandelism.

  2. Your damages should be covered under your comrehensive coverage.  If so, your rates will not go up.  The consequences for NOT making a claim to your insurance company simply becuse your rates MAY go up are that some will call you foolish for spending good money for insurance and then not using it

  3. If you have comprehensive coverage on your vehicle, this would be considered an "act of malicious mischief", and it will be covered less your deductible.

It you do not, then you need to find out who the kids are, and file a claim against their parents' homeowner's coverage.  However, it may be considered an  "intentional act".  If this is the case, the insurance company may deny coverage to their insured's.  You will have to file a small claims action.

  4. For that type of claim, you will need to make sure that your policy covers malicious damage as most third party, and third party, fire and theft policies don't. If you have comprehensive insurance, it should be covered, but you will have to pay an excess. How much depends on the terms of your policy, and unless you know who is responsible, and can take him to court, you will not be able to claim that back.

If you do claim  on your insurance, and do not have protected no claim discount, you may lose some of your no claim discount for making a claim. Also, if you are applying for insurance quotes in the future and disclose that you have made a claim, you may have to pay more or even be declined. You need to work out how much extra you would pay out in insurance, and how much the claim would cost, and if it is going to be cheaper to get the repairs done, it might be a good idea not to go through your insurance.

I know it may not be what you want to hear, and it is tough, but whilst it wasn't your fault, if an insurer ends up paying out, they will treat the claim as if it is your fault.

  5. yes they will cover the cost but u need to pay the excess and depending on your insurance type u could be out in the following years depends on your no-claim bonus and how much the accident is and if u lose your no claim how much more do u pay next year and c because of this insurance company's love these smaller claims cause you get knocked back alittle and every little counts know what i mean p s if u decide to get them to fix it and u have the cover 4 replacement vehicle u should take them up on it because you excess is the same

  6. If you have comprehensive coverage, they should be able to take care of it as a vandalism case.

Filing these types of claims normally do not affect your policy unless there are numerous ones submitted, then your company's underwriting department can notified for a review.

  7. Hi, because this wasn't a collision it won't count against you unless you have one of those fly by night insuance company's. Check to see how much your deductable is though as it may not be worth doing a claim. If you have a 500 deductable you would have to pay that amount before the insuance would even kick in.
