I live in Central Florida and I want to go to Atlanta, Georgia next weekend. I am also on a budget (but just enough cash)- but I'll be staying with friends so I won't need cash for a hotel room or food b/c my friends cook (they offered). So, I want to drive up there b/c it's only 7-8 hours away from where I live. So my car has close to 110,000 miles on it but I got a new transmission. Is it safe to drive it up there and back? Or should I just rent a car? Is there any cheaper mode of transportation, like take the Greyhound or airplane? Btw, my car is a '98 Mazda.

  1. As long as you have maintained the vehicle .  There can at anytime be a problem with any vehicle.  You need to have the oil, transmission fluid, coolant, air in tires, wipers,  all checked out.  You can do this all yourself or ask a friend to do it.  Take a flashlight and cell phone with you.  I always carry a set of jumper cables to.  You can go by auto zone or advanced auto and have them check your battery.  Make sure all your lights and signals work.  110,000 miles isnt anything on some vehicles.  Good Luck.

  2. That depends on how well maintained your car is.

I drive my 94 civic all around USA.  I drive it from NYC to Boston (210 miles - one way) and NYC to Chicago (1600 miles - round trip - in 2 days).

I choose it over my 2000 Audi A4 (62K miles) because I know the civic is in excellent maintained condition.

So it isn't about the miles.  It is about the way you maintained it.

    Good luck...

  3. hers the thing, if your car engine has Good Oil Preasure, no overhating problems and no extra noises comming from it then Id go for it, cars now days are getting more then 150000 miles on them with regular maintenence, if you are in doudt take it to someone and have it checked out,

  4. Go for it, but make sure you belong to AAA.

  5. ya i agree with everyone.... before u do ur trip make sure your car is maintained mainly like your oil n coolant and all that stuff.....i dont think u will have a problem just go for it
