Ok so I'm wanting to move out soon, I'm about to turn 18 and go to college. But I work in an office and my hours are going to be 5 hours a day monday through friday making $10/hour. I estimated around 1000 a month without taxes and round 800 a month with I'm pretty sure about that. Can I make it with one roomate probably rent is around $500, $250 for each of us.

  1. Of course you can. Just watch what you spend. If you have a long commute and a car with average gas mileage you might be spending $200 to $300 on gas. If you eat out a lot, add another $100 to $300. Groceries: $200 to $300. Utilities: $25 - $50. Cable/Internet: $25 - $50 shared. If you watch what you spend and don't have to fork out a lot for fuel every month, you'll be fine.

  2. If you don't waste to much on junk food and booze

  3. Yes.  Landlords want a tenant whose monthly income is three times the monthly rent.  Be sure you have the right roommate.  If one decides to move in the middle of the lease. the landlord can make you responsible for the entire amount of the rent due.

  4. I think you can make it.

Just be sure to mark your kitchen stuff, to be sure you know whose is whose.

  5. I wouldn't see why not .....

You have the income .. now all you need is to find a roommate .....

    try: Craigslist.org , Roommates.com or MySpace.com (classifieds) ..... or even your local newspaper .

  6. Have you figured in utilities.  Definitly get renters insurance.  What if your roommate leaves in the middle of the lease?  Then you are stuck with the rest of the rent until the lease is up.

Do not get the utilities, and especially a landline phone in your name.  The roommate can ruin you, if they run up large bills.

I think you have estimated too much on taxes.  it shoudnt ne that much.

Right now, without utilities, you can make it, with it will be close.
