Question:

Can I make macaroni salad with what I've got?

I made goulash the other night, and wound up making way too much elbow macaroni. I don't want to make macaroni and cheese, as we have tons of it already. So I'm wondering if I can make macaroni salad with what I've got -

Elbow macaroni (obviously)

Salad dressing (miracle whip)

Onion

Green Pepper

Eggs

What else can I put in it that would taste good? Is what I have good for macaroni salad (in the right proportions)?

  1. Add some tuna fish.

  2. a little bit of mustard would go a long way.  try it to taste. that'll give it the vinegar you're looking for.

  3. sounds fine. you wont know until you try so just make it. add some salt and pepper.

  4. Sounds wonderful:)  Macaroni Salad isn't an exact science:)  Just add whatever you want to it (onions, hard-boiled eggs, green pepper) and either a dressing with Miracle Whip, or a vignarette-type dressing.  Black olives are good;  sunroasted peppers;  red bell peppers ... whatever you have available;)  You can add some spicy mustard, and/or vinegar to the Miracle Whip .... Oh!  DON'T add relish to it!  YUCK!  That would destroy a perfectly good macaroni salad!  The bell pepper will be enough crunch;  and celery or carrots work too...

  5. I think what you have sounds fine. No one said there is a set rule for macaroni salad  lol

I use this site for many of my recipe needs. I think its great!

  6. add either tuna, chicken, or diced ham and it would be perfect.

  7. I really don't like eggs so I add bacon bits and albacore tuna for some protein and omit the eggs!  Now send me your Goulash recipe...I love that stuff!

  8. sounds ok to me

  9. Not sure about the vinegar..sounds good. You can make it with what you have, plus celery and radishes are good if you ever have those. I also like to add a bit of cayenne pepper or something to give it more flavour :)

  10. Salad dressing is horrible so I would avoid that but add some mayo and/or sour cream.

Use pickle juice instead of vinegar.

  11. sounds a little strange but add a can of tuna to your salad for a Louie style pasta salad. You can also make a easy tuna casserole using your pasta and a can of tuna with cream of mushroom soup, cheese, onion and top with bread crumbs. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes.

  12. What you got is good, but tuna, crabmeat, salmon is lovely too.

  14. I'd leave the egg out of macaroni salad; it's better in potato salad.

Chop the onion & green pepper finely, sweet red pepper is better.

You could use oil & vinegar dressing instead of Miracle Whip.

In that case, I'd add some herbs, at least parsley.

  15. I think you have everything.  You can add some vinegar in it and some pepper as well for seasoning.  But don't put too much vinegar, as I'm sure you know.

  16. That sounds good to me.  If you have any tuna or even Spam add it to the Macaroni salad as well.

  17. Yes, it needs vinegar, but instead of the green pepper, I'd recommend relish.  Mmmmmmm!
