Question:

Can I make my eyes worse by looking at close things with my glasses on when I only need them to see far away?

I usually watch tv across the room (which I need my glasses for) and look back and forth to my computer, on my lap. I don't need my glasses to see the computer, but I find myself looking at the screen through them just so I don't have to put them back on when I want to glance up at the tv. Does this make my eyes worse?

  1. no

  2. Distance glasses are way overcorrected for vision up close. Strong prescriptions can encourage incorrect vision habits of diffusion and staring. Incorrect vision habits are what squeeze our eyes out of shape and give us blurry vision.

When people are aware of the incorrect vision habits they can avoid them and increased blurry vision. Though when people become aware of the incorrect vision habits to avoid, and reintegrate the correct vision behaviors, their dependance on artificial corrections decreases and they see clearly naturally.

  3. If you are shortsighted and use glasses for distance objects then it is best that you don't use them for near work- it is said that your vision can get worse as the glasses can be too strong at shorter distances and causing eyestrain.

I only use my glasses to see distance and not for close work.

I also use computer and watch tv at the same time but I choose not to use them as only my right eye is shortsighted and my left eye has perfec vision. Its annoying when you have two eyes that see differently.
