I need an extremely inexpensive way to finish my basement ceiling and am willing to put in some time to save some money.

Is it possible to make my own ceiling tiles? Any suggestions/ideas welcome.

Thanks!

  1. cheaper just to go out and buy some.....more time will be wasted trying to make them

  2. It will most likely take you more time than what it is worth to make ceiling tiles.  However you could try to go to some job site that is remodeling a building.  They usually through out the old ceiling tiles and replace them with new ones.  I hope that this will help you.

  3. You can  cut card board for tiles, cover them with foil, use hot glue to make designs and paint.

Might check out habitat for humanities Restore. They sell lots of stuff that might inspire you.

You also may decide to install a fabric ceiling as an alternative.

  4. Nothing is really lower cost than drywall. You should not make ceilings out of flammable material like cardboard.
