Question:

Can I make the cut for Division I-AA football?

I'm trying out for my college's football team in a few weeks and I want to know if I can cut it. I don't lift regularly, I'm not very muscular, but I am very athletic. I am very fast and have great lateral quickness and balance.

I'm 5'5, 130lbs and I have good hands (albeit small). But above all else I am very smart and I have great concentration.

Do you think I can make my college's football team as a freshman, or will I have to bulk up, work out and increase my speed and try again as a sophomore?

  1. U need to bulk up at least to 155 or 160. ANd i dont know how fast u are but u should work on ur speed because u might think ur fast compared to normal people but football players at skill positions are always fast u could be the fastest guy u know but get into college football and be like a cornerback cuz ur not very tall and be the slowest one there or u actually could be really fast but i dont know.

  2. For sure try out, but I would say go lift and bulk up. To me it sounds like you would be playing corner back. You would be a fairly short corner, but it has been done before. If you don't make the team, practice, practice, practice. There is a possibility you could make special teams as a kick returner too.

Could I ask what college and what position you are planning on trying out for?
