Can I make the team? Players? Coaches?

I'm trying out for my schools volleyball team this august and i was wondering if any of you experienced volleyball players or coaches could tell me if i had a good chance of making the team. I've been to 4 camps and have never played club, but i might this summer. The past month i've been working on my vertical leap, doing 10 sets of 15 bumps and 15 sets almost everyday, and working on my jump serve. There were 8 girls on the JV team last year and 11 8th grade girls. I'm going into the 8th grade. Can i possibly make the team? Thanks!

  1. yes! if you have a consistent serve, and a good bump, then your all set

  2. Based on your workouts, if you are following them religiously, you have a good chance to make a team. Most high school kids talk about working out but the summer social scene gets the better of them and only a few work out. In that sense, you have a leg up on your competition.

As far as saying you will or won't. I can't possibly tell you because anyone can pay for camps and be on a club team if the money is there, but as a coach, I'd have to see you play and see how you control your body while performing skills.

Keep working hard and do your best and you will be satisfied, no matter what the results are.

  3. i am trin out for da 8th grade team 2. I played in 7th grade. I was on varsity. When you bump try bumping to a wall. Also if u know someone that is tring out, you two can Pepper (bump, set spike continusly) back and fourth. It sounds like you would make the  JV, possibly Varsity. good luck!

  4. You sound like you will probably make the JV team, I have seen girls with less skill then that who have made it.

Coached look for in a player:

    1) A killer over hand serve (Jump serve is a plus)

    2) Controlled Bump and Set

    3) Able to Dig/Dive successfully

    4) Team work (Bump, Set, Hit (spike) technique)

    5) Backwards set is a plus

All around good player, and if you know what your doing on the court you will defintely make the team!

  5. You will make it if you have been working that hard.

Normally an 8th-grader-team would have 12-15 players, so that there is a very good chance that you can make your varsity team.

It seems to me that your JV team definitely needs more players, if you only had 8 last year. Even if your coach wanted to put you in JV with all different reasons, your work ethics would get you promoted into varsity in no time.

Keep working hard, and have fun playing volleyball.
