My girlfriend has been here for more than 30 yrs but is not resident her in Australia. I would like to get married and have kids with her but I am worried that her status in Australia will be a problem. I would really like some advice as this has effected her for her whole life and now me as her partner. Can we just go and get married? Will this solve the issue or make it easier to gain residency? Can we just go and have children? Lots of question marks and this is a very difficult situation for us.

  1. Your best bet is to ring the department of immigration  and ask them for advice which path you should take.

    Their number is 131881.

You don't have to leave your name if you don't want to when you ring them.

Fee free you email me if you need any more advice.

  2. I have also been here  for 30yrs I am a resident but not a citizen I married an Australian citizen last year with absolutely no problems. So if your girlfriend has been here for 30years she is also a resident. So you can go and get married. And any children you have will be automatic Aussies. Good luck and be happy.

  3. sorry dont understand? how can she be living in aus for 30 years and not be a resident? I have lived in aus nearly 50 and I am not a citizen - that is possible - as I migrated with the parents when I was very young, but I am a resident. Is your girlfriend an illegal? after 30 years surely the government will give her amnesty . I dont see any problem
