Question:

Can I mix 2 brands of motorcycle oil (both 10W30)?

I know there are some fluids which are never supposed to be mixed with different brands, such as brake fluid I think. I'm also pretty sure that its not wise to mix two different types of oil (ie: 10W30 and 10W40). I'm just wondering if I could top off my oil (it's a little low) with any 10W30 motorcycle oil, or if I should make extra effort to obtain the Honda oil I know I have in the bike. I will be sure to use 10W30 and will make sure it's motorcycle oil, because I know how important that is.

  1. YEA YOU CAN IT ALL THE SAME AS LONG AS THERE IS OIL...

  2. Not a good idea, but not a bad idea either if you are in need of lubrication.

In short case it would be ok to mix the two oil together if you really need lubrication and must move on until you can get an oil change.

If you don't want to get oil change and want to have oil in the crank case for a long period of time.  I would not do it, I would just go to the nearest location where they sell the proper oil for your vehicle.

  3. yes you can as long as they are motorcycle oils (not car oil)

even synthetic or semi synthetic of the same grade (ie) 10w30 they are all mineral oils just processed  different (ie) heat or chemicals, but they will all mix ,

  4. you can try mix it...it is no problem

  5. Yes you can as long as it is not a synthetic. However, If you are down a little oil, why not just change the oil now and keep a matching quart on hand. M/Cs take such a small amount and you can't change oil too often. Not too expensive, a good experience if you want to learn and have not been doing it yourself.

  6. It's not important at all. Just top it off with a good 10W30. There is tons of talk about what oils to use in bikes and what not to use. When it comes right down to it though, as long as you change it regularly and use the factory viscosity, you will be fine.

I have driven thousands and thousands of miles over the last 20 years of riding and never had an oil related failure on any bike I have owned.

As far as mixing oil, they are all compatable with one another. Even synthetics can be blended with regular oil.

  7. You can top off with any oil that does NOT have the words "Energy Conserving" in the API circle on the back of the bottle.

Its better to mix oil weights than to run low.

And YES you can top it off with synthetic.  Ever  heard of Synthetic Blend?

  8. Generally mixing different brand oils is ok as long as they are the same weight and classification, sounds like that is the case here. It is usually only recommended in a emergency situation since different manufacturers can use different amounts of detergents, additives, etc. which might cause a problem. I would say you should be safe in using two different brands, as long as the weight is the same, but if you have the ability try to go with what is already there.
