Can I move a car from Mexico into the US and get it registered here?

I am planning to my fiancee's car from Mexico to the US.

Can it be done? Any issues that I may face later down the line if I had to sell this car in the US?

Is it just better to sell that car in Mexico and buy a new one in the US?

Anyone know for sure - or has done this?

I believe that (if I remember correctly, from when a friend was bringing a car home from Germany) that the vehicle will have to meet California Emissions standards (they have the most stringent so, you have to meet theirs, because you might drive the car there). If the car will meet those standards, it should be, I would think, fairly easy, if not, bag it and get a new one.
