Question:

Can I move my iPod downloads to an external hard drive?

OK, so when I download anything from iTunes it goes onto my computer's hard drive. I want to move it all on to an external hard drive so it doesn't take up loads of space. Can I do this, and then delete the stuff off my hard drive? If I do that, will I still have it on my iPod? I tried this with a Zune and it didn't work, don't want to s***w it up again.

  1. Oh yeah...

First thing's first: Move your stuff. Don't delete just yet,

Copy all of your iTunes music/purchases to the external hard drive. You can do this by going into (Hard Drive)/Applications/iTunes/Music.

Move the entire Music folder to your new location. In my case it was moved to Timecapsule/Backup/iTunes/Music.

Then go into your iTunes preferences.

In the Mac version it's called preferences in Windows it's called options.

Under the Advance tab go to general. There is an option there called "iTunes Music Folder Location". Click on Change and type in the new directory. Once again, in my case it was: Timecapsule/Backup/iTunes/Music

Once this is done go back to iTunes to make sure it's all kosher, you can then go on to free up some much needed space.
