Can I obtain a CT pistol permit while on probation/ in a substance abuse program?

Question

I got a DUI when I was 20 years old... Then got another when I was 21 and was charged with a double-first offence DUI. My license was suspended for three years, had to pay a $1000.00 fine, 200 hours community service, do a substance abuse program, attend a mothers against drunk driving impact panel, and probation for two years. So my question is... What are the chances of me being able to obtain a CT pistol permit? My attourney said I am leagally able to, but the final say is up to the police chief in my town. The chief has the right to turn anyone down for any reason. Should I wait untill I am off probation to apply or should I try now?

Actually,it's against the law for anyone who has ever been a drug abuser to have a gun.You might be able to get a permit though.Just lie on the application,they hardly ever check for accuracy anyway.

Your state will have laws against pistol owners/CCW license holders being addicted to controlled substances. You stated you attended a substance abuse program, for alcohol or drugs? Yes you can legally get a permit but these factors will weigh against the decision
