As part of some improvements to a property we had an new gas boiler installed, supposedly by a Corgi Registered Gas Fitter. We have not been provided with a certificate. I have challenged the owner of the building firm who says that it was sent. I have asked for a duplicate and this has not been provided. Can I contact Corgi and asked them for one. I do not know the name of the "Gas Fitter", however, I assume that Corgi would be able to track this from the property address?

  1. corgi registered tradesman have id numbers which should be on a card or certificate this can be cross checked with corgi itself,if you dont have a name of the fitter you can ring corgi and ask them if they have that company registered with them

  2. With respect to the previous answer no one but the initial installer is meant to be able to certificate the installation. Another Corgi engineer can issue a gas safety certificate but this is not the same as a Certificate of Compliance.

Also Corgi have their own troubles  having lost out to Capita as the holder of the register for gas installers. No one yet knows how the competent persons scheme for gas is going to be run or Gas Work Notification will now work. The HSE just says details will be announced shortly in line with its overall aim of reducing the burden on Gas Installers.

Incidentally Corgi is reasonably toothless in forcing installers to notify their work if they don't choose to do so so you could well have a lot of difficulties in getting a certificate now.

  3. Yes you can, but it sounds unlikely it has been registered as Corgi send the certificate to the property/owner direct and not the installer. Phone Corgi to check if its been registered or not. If it hasn't you need to get someone who is Corgi registered to check the installation and register it or your warranty will not be valid and if you sell the property it will cause problems with the HIPS scheme. Your builder should pay for this but good luck.
