I think I have a recurrent infection of shingles as I have a rash and the symptoms. Ive had this before about 4 years ago. I don't want to go and see a doctor but would like to get some antiviral medication that I have been prescribed previously as it will only cost £6 from the doctor but if I buy on line its £52!!! I really don't want to see the doctor i just want to ask for a repeat prescription. is this possible?

  1. Ring your surgery and explain your request to them. It shouldn't be a problem.

  2. Not if it was 4 years ago when you had it.  Its best to go to your doctor as you may also need an antibiotic.

  3. No prescription drugs are called so for a reason... If they were safe to take without a prescription they would be over the counter drugs. And if you have a second episode of shingles you should really see a doctor.

  4. you can buy on line but to me that is fraught with danger, you just don't know what you are really getting. You need a doctors signature on a prescription, so perhaps ring the surgery as ask if they could do you a repeat, but the last time was 4 years ago, so not sure if they will.

  5. Nope. Prescription medicines, by law can only be prescribed by a doctor, sorry pal

  6. no. not for this anyway. there are some things doctors will sign prescriptions for without first seeing you, but as you haven't had this problem for 4 years, the doctor would want to see you to make sure he was prescribing the right treatment

  7. simply put. no.  you will have to see your doctor.  you could ask on the nhs health advice telephone number.  they will give good advice.  or perhaps the pharmacist could advise.  but your doctor would be best as he will know your medical history and and new treatments available.

    hope you feel better soon.

  8. when i used to get tonsillitis every 3 months my Dr would write me a prescription without seeing him. and recently i had an infection in my salivary glands (i knew it was that as i had it about a year ago) again they just wrote me a prescription.

  9. If you have already seen a doctor for your ailment and he prescribed a medication that worked for you then it should be fine since most of the time you would have refills. That might be the best recourse, to call your doctor and explain that you have a recurrence and ask for him to refill the prescription and give you refills for later so you can save some money.

If that is not feasible then spend the money.
