  1. I was a little worried too...not about thunderstorms or sinking but falling overboard.....we all have worries and just have to do it and be a peace with our problems otherwise you will miss a great opportunity... a lot of people are not lucky enough to have a cruise experience.....have fun.....I loved being taken care of on the cruise..they made the bed while we were at breakfast,  turned it down at night would pick up and deliver our laundry and no meals to prepare.....

  2. You will love it.  I went on a cruise for the first time and had many fears.  Titanic and other scary thoughts went through my head. There is nothing to worry about.  Safety and security aboard these ships is top notch.  We were just o the Caribbean Princess and it was fantastic.  Cell phones usually will not work out at sea.  They do have satellite phone and Internet service available on board.  Relax and enjoy your cruise.

  3. dont worry at all...nothin will happen. i was on a cruise a couple months ago, and had the best time of my life...trust me, there's so much to do on the ship you wont even think about anything bad happening, and nothin will happen! your phone will work but it will have the international charge...you can use it though and you can use the internet......please dont worry bout anythin! you're gonna have a blast..enjoy

  4. Hi I'm Ashley and i'm 14 and I went on a cruise on Royal Carribean. The weather was great, a little windy in the evening. You can get over the fear. Yes I watched Titanic and Poseidon before I went but we are way better equipped these days. There are plenty of boats and you have life jackets in your room. You can barely feel the ship move and you can't even tell until you look at the water. I went in July of 2006 and there were no thunderstorms. I'm not saying there won't be any but it's not going to hurt you. They go through this all the time. Your cell phone will not work. It will work if you are close to porting but in the middle of the ocean it won't. They have phones but it is very expensive. Don't Worry just have fun!

  5. Tons of cruises go out daily and there are no problems.  I got this way right before my cruise, but I think.......wait at least 50 ships are out there with thousands of people everyday and they live.  Don't be scared.  Ships can easily move around storms and avoid them.  You phone will not work in areas way out at sea.  I went to Mexico and sprint has a mexico calling plan that worked the whole time cause we were close enough to land, but I would check with verizon because most ships now have cell access onboard for $2.99 a min.  Make sure to bring something for sea sickness. Since you are worried as it is you are more likely to get seasick from it.

  6. Well, depending on the size of the ship, most are like cities anymore, you should have no issues.  Thunderstoms....poo on them too, the ship can withstand that and so much more too.  No cruise ship that I know of has sunk in the last bunch of years, since wwll, anyway.....so there is no worry there either.  And your phone...it should be ok as long as you subscribe to world wide service.   enjoy your cruise.

  7. You cannot overcome this. You must die in fear, and expect the ship to sink.

  8. First off, you are going to love it -- I've been on a bunch of them.  I would not worry at all about sinking at all.  Think of the lawsuits that would occur if they did.  And you don't really hear about it, do you?

On your first day -- before you even leave shore, I believe -- you will do an emergency drill.  They will show you where to gather in case of an emergency.  It goes by cabin location so you will not have all of the passengers in one place, it won't be the pandemonium of Titanic :-)  The ratio of staff to passengers tends to be pretty high in the bigger lines like Princess so you will have lots of people looking out for you.

If you are going with a large line like Princess or Royal Caribbean they will have a website talking about the particular boat you will be going on and the amenities.  You will be so busy doing all sorts of stuff you will not even notice bad weather if you encounter it.

Where are you cruising to?  If the Carribbean then I can give you more advice.   No, your phone won't work in the middle of the Atlantic, but it will work onshore in certain countries and even a certain distance when you pull into / out of port.  I used my T-Mobile phone in St. Thomas and it was the same price as using it at home becuase I have a nationwide plan and St. Thomas is an American island.  They will likely have  computer lab onboard so if you are worried about keeping in touch with a BF you can e-mail.  The speed sucks, but hey -- you're in an ocean, what do you want?

If the weather is rough they will may not dock in a scheduled port or they will delay the arrival.  Which stinks if you have an excurison scheduled for that port, but they always have your safety in mind.  Oh!  And sign up for the excursions online BEFORE you go.  Lots of them get sold out so check it out online.

  9. You should have no problems or worries..

As far as the cell phone goes, call the cruise line office and ask...

  10. Seriously i could tell you about all the ships that have sunken but that doesnt mean anything i have been on couple differant cruises and there is nothing to worry about...It so much fun and meeting new people is great on cruises...also I was on a cruise and it was stormy and you feel it a little bit but other than that its just great. You honestly have nothing to worry about...

  11. I've been on cruise ships for a long time now.  My phone works in the Caribbean, but on the way there you probably won't get service.  I've been on Queen Mary II in the middle of a horrendous storm (she's the cousin to the Titanic) and made it back in one peace.  Probably because I've been on so many cruises weather doesn't bother me as much as it did in the beginning.  When it's your time to go, you go cruise ship or not.  The odds are you will have a fabulous time!

  12. Your phone won't work unless you're in port, or at least very close to land.  Haven't heard about any ships sinking, but before you book, I would check the age of the ship.  I'm particular about that also, since things tend to break the older they get.  And as for the weather, check when hurricane season is, I know it ends Nov 30th for the Caribbean.

  13. You are going to be just fine. Thousands of people set sail every weekend and there have been no problems in a loooong time (like since the Titanic) that I'm aware of. We've come along way since then!! As far as thunderstorms, the captain wants not only you to be safe but him as well and if a storm looks bad then they'll go around it. They've got radar and they'll be able to see it coming for miles, just like airplanes. Absolutely no need to worry! Oh and no, your cell phone will not work but there is a phone in every cabin. It's expensive, but it's there. Cruising is so safe...just don't get to close to the railing!
