Can I own a race horse for £36 per month?

I have been told that with Racing Guild, you can own a share in two race horses for £36/month. You get to go to the races with all the owners privileges, you get to visit the stables, you get a share of prize money. One of the horses has won 4 times this year and has won £20,000.

This seems too good to be true - does anyone know anyone who is a member ?? Thanks.

  1. In the US we have limited partnerships where you buy into a horse for a certain amount (i.e. 10% of a $200,000 yearling or 2 yr old) then pay that percent of the monthly bills including partnership management fees.  You can buy in lesser amounts but get lesser amounts of return.  The monthly fees would be in the $2500-3000 range so 10% would be $300 a month.  The 36 pounds a month sound small and probably only gives you 1% of the horse.  If you want the fun of owners privileges that may be the way to go.  If you want the opportunity to make a lot of money in horse racing it's not the way to go.  Hope that helps.

  2. I have been looking for something like this but it sounded to good to be true. They have a website http://www.theracingguild.org so I emailed them to ask. This is the response I just had:

"We have two horses in training Guilded Warrior (winner 4 time out of 5 this year) and Joy in the Guild. When you join you are getting all owners priveliges in both horses. The membership details are on the website and you pay for either a half or full share. This determines your share of prize money at the end of the year. What happens is that all prize money (for both horses) is put into a prize fund and at the end of the year is split into the number of shares held. There are currently apporx 36 shares held but some members have half shares and some have full shares. As stated earlier you also get to watch the horses when they run from the owners area and there are organised stable visits."

I am following up on this one so thanks for highlighting it.The £36/month you quote appears to be for a half share. All the prices are here http://www.theracingguild.org/joining.ph...

  3. I don't know of this particular racing club first hand, but there are many similar clubs like Elite Racing.  I have friends who are members of Elite and they pay about £125 per year and the club own about 30 horses, plus a few broodmares.

Yes you do have to share the horse with numerous other people (Elite has 18,000+ members), but it is a good opportunity for people to experience the thrill of owning a racehorse.  It currently costs about £16,000 per year to kep a horse in training in GB.
