Question:

Can I package items sold in bulk for resale?

I'm in the process of opening a small craft store, I have a couple of manufacturers where I can buy bulk quantities of items (beads, glitter etc). Can I package these items in smaller amounts for resale with my store name on the package? I doubt anyone will want to buy 1000's of beads or ten pounds of glitter. Does anyone know if there are any rules about doing this?

  1. if you split the bulk products up, no you cannot re-sale.

but if you're re-selling the products as they come, yes you can :)

multi-pack/bulk products usually have a not saying whether they're suitable for re-sale or not. like walkers crisp for example, if they're bought in a pack of many, the individual packs say "this is a multi-pack product, not suitable for re-sale"

    simple :)

  2. Yes, you can resale the goods, but you need to get a resale license and a business license.  Just call your local county clerk's office to see what the requirements are for opening a small business, and they should be able to give you details.  Or, you can check online on your state's treasury website.  Good luck!

  3. I don't think there are any specific rules regarding this.  You should be able to break them up and sell them in any way you want to.  I worked for a man years ago that bought items in bulk from the navy.  He would then take the items and resell them to the military individually and make a lot of money.
