Can I paint Velcro?

Question

On these pair of red shoes, they have white velcro on them.

Is there any kind of special paint I can paint the velcro "red" and will the velcro still be able to function/stick?

If someone could tell me a safe kind of paint or marker or w/e to use on velcro? thanks.
