Can I paint over gel nails?

I just got a full set of gel nails. I asked for a french manicure and they charged me $5 extra for it. But they did nothing. The FM is the tips that they put on. I don't understand why they charge extra for that and it looks awful on my hands. I asked the tech if I could paint over it and he said no, why would I want to. So can I and will it be as glossy looking? These look ridiculous on me. Not natural at all!

My mom went to nail school and when she put gel tips on me , she painted over them.... If you dont like it you can just remove the paint with a non acetone nailpolish remover.

You CAN paint over them, Idk why they would tell you no. No it won't be as glossy looking unless you put a clear glossy top coat over it.
