Question:

Can I paint the inside of my UPVC windows?

I'm sure I read somewhere that you can't paint the outside because paint wouldn't stand up to weathering (I may be wrong on that though)

I'd like to paint the inside though. Can I do this, and if so, what sort of paint do I need?

Thanx in advance for your answers.

  1. You can, but why?

If you really want to, you will still have to 'Key' the surface with very fine sandpaper, then use 'tile primer' first this will stick to the PVC, then paint over with your choice of colour. The more layers the bettter to cover up scratched PVC.

    Good luck.

  2. you can in side and will need a platisicsed primer at a guess also to rough up the frame a lil to allow the primer to grip it

  3. how would you see outside? just draw the curtains instead!

  4. i wouldn't advise it the paint stars cracking off and it looks hideous

  5. There has never been a really good successful primer for plastic because nothing can soak into it and gimmicky primers can only try to adhere to it.

So you can paint them, but it is not a good idea, you will have to keep doing it, the finish will not be as flat as they are now, you have to be careful not to jam the closers up as they have very tight tolerances.

The accepted way for decorators to paint plastic is to key the surface with fine wire wool and then apply two coats of oil-based gloss; but you could apply a specialist primer first like prime-it plus or bullseye 123.

You could also buy some UPVC cleaner which might brighten them up.

  6. You can paint UPVC inside and out you just use a UPVC paint, people paint windows all the time......how did you get a UPVC House ??

  7. It has posted I've just seen it and a few good answers.I think it's just slow, another YA glitch.

  8. No you cant

  9. yes, if you use a plastic primer first

  10. I would cover the PVC up with something like MDF and paint over that. It also gives you the option to return to the PVC if you change your mind later.

  11. It is possible as others have pointed out, but why would you want to do this?  The beauty of pvc windows is that they dont need to be painted.

  12. No you cannot paint them - don't even attempt this.

Just clean them with a UPVC cleaning solution.

  13. It can be a bit hit and miss.

You need to get a coating or primer onto the pvc first and then a gloss paint.

Any large DIY store will advise on the primer.
