I hear excessive heat can build up and damage the doors.

  1. Typically heat related problems between storms and entry doors occur when the entry is painted black or some other darker color.

I`ve never seen it happen on a steel entry door, but I have seen it happen on a fibreglas/composite.

It also depends on the amount of glass and the sealing quality in the storm door. Some units have an engineered vent system to prevent this and help in closing when the entry door is closed.

  2. Why not just use a screen door?  The steel entry should make a storm panel unnecessary

  3. Yes you can ,depending on the climate in which you live it should not be a problem, because the average doors, business or home, are only closed at the same time for maybe 10 hours a day continuosly. Heat build up isn't going to do anything to either door and you are only taking about 6 inches deep max, 36 in. x82 in. home or business it won,t effect anything!I have a fullview anderson door on my house and an anderson steel door for my front entry and that door gets opened about 3x a year and I have never had any problems at all!No warpage or anything!
