I'm buying something off of ebay on thursday but I will only have more funds to pay for it on friday through my bank account (and through paypal). Will I be able to pay for this item, or will i be rejected immediately? If not, could i just directly charge it off of my credit card and will i be sent a insufficent fund fee? It's a Citizens Bank checking account. I'm just wondering if the process takes a while like a day or 2 to show up in my online bank statement.

  1. Ok. If you are bidding or buying something on eBay, after you have "purchased" it you typical have 5 to 7 days to pay for it before the seller you have purchased the item from starts demanding their money. So you can simply contact the seller immediately after buying it and let her know when you will be making your payment. If you are going to be paying for the item within 24 hours of actually winning it, there is no need to contact the seller. There are many buyers that typically wait a day or two before paying for an item.

Additionally, if you have your checking account linked with PayPal, you can start the payment process immediately, since it typically takes a few days for an "e-Check" to clear. However, I would wait until you actually have the money in your account before doing that, just in case PayPal tries to take it immediately. If they do, then you'll get a fee from your bank for withdrawing money that you don't have, just like you would for a bounced check.

You could simply link a credit card to PayPal and use that as your primary funding source. Then you wouldn't have to worry about your checking account. However, if you haven't done that already, you won't be able to link a credit card in time for this sale, because it typically takes a week or two for that to process to clear.

    Good luck!

  2. I think that you will get rejected.  You should contact the seller and see if you can pay for the goods in a few days before the item gets shipped.

  3. Check the sellers terms. With eBay you pay the seller, not eBay. Some sellers want immediate payment, some will give you a week or so to pay.

  4. Unless the seller has a rule about immediate payment, you can wait until Friday to pay for an auction ending on Thursday.

  5. The best thing you can do is to contact the seller. Explain to him/her what you just told us. Most likely, the seller will give you some extra time to pay. If you want to pay with your bank account, the payment will be sent immediately. You'll see an immediate decrease in your "Available cash" from your bank. It's better to just pay with your bank account if you're sure you'll have enough money in there.
