I just purchased a house boat and i was wondering if i could permanently live in a house boat on the water. I just retired and I figured that this is a good way to live. I'm in Australia by the way.

  2. I'm sorry I don't know the exact procedures to follow, but I know many people do live permanently on house boats on the Murray River.

  3. This depends on your location and whether you intend to have a permanent mooring or move regularly.

In Sydney Harbour, near the Spit, there are a couple of permanent house boats but they have been there a long time, and the Waterways people are not granting new licences.  There are people who live on boats in marinas, but they are expected to move regularly - I think every week or so.

  4. Contact the Maritime Services Board in your state, I am sure you can live permanently on a house boat, you better get yourself some crab pots!  I lived on a boat years ago, it's great fun, make sure you have good moorings and jetty access, especially at extreme low tides, of course depending on where you are.
