I am stationed at Fort Hood, and recently there was a ban on Pit Bulls in the housing area, is there a way I can petition this regulation that was written by a LTG?

  1. if you dont like the regs, you can move out. no one is forcing you to live on post. I doubt a LTG is going to change a reg because of one solider. there is a reason for the reg...family pit bull or not...its there...either give up the pitt or move off post....

Edit: Wow..i guess I have to be nice to some solider who thinks he can change everything because his ball and chain had a hissy fit? Listen buddy, I don't know what base you are on, but there are HUNDREDS of soliders on waiting lists to on post housing, and would LOVE to have your house. But, you want to be whiny and try to make it how you want it...not how it is. I bet you are an officer, aren't you? Always trying to change things just because you have a little gold on your chest...get over it. If you don't like the regs, get a house off post and give that on post housing to someone who needs it

  2. You enlisted into the military..You were not forced into it..You knew before hand that you would have to obey all of the laws in the military.

Lets not try to petition every thing we dont like..Lets learn to adapt to what we have asked to do.

  3. Sorry you can not petition a post regulation. You have to follow legal orders from an officer. That sounds like a legal order. You don't have to agree or like it but have to follow it.

You can address grievances through the chain of command, but I doubt they will change it. You can request to speak with the commanding officer and have your concerns heard.

But you are not allowed to organize a petition. It could be charged as a mutiny if someone wanted to be a hard-head about it. I haven't seen them do it, but I saw them squash a petition by threatening it once when I was in the military.

That is one of the "pit-falls" about being in the military (excuse the pun)

I am personally against breed specific legislation or regulations...but then again there are many cities in civilian world that have baned pit bulls. (I think that is a tragedy but nobody asked me)

You might just have to move off base if you want a Pitt Bull. (but check with the local laws...to many AMERICAN cities are banning them (so called home of the free) --I can say that...I am a veteran and I do love my country, I just don't like stupid laws that only suppress personal freedom and cause more harm to the innocent. They are punishing the wrong people. It is not the dogs fault that there are stupid people who abuse them. They are the only ones who should be banned from owning a pit. If you have never harmed an animal and you are responsible then you should be allowed to own the dog.

I think responsible breeders should take charge of the breed and save it. All people who fight the poor dogs should be punished. I feel so bad for the dogs.

Note: I love all dogs. I have two mutts neither is a pitt, but I still feel for the dog.

  4. No. It is kind of like hearing somebody that is in the military saying they are going to sue the military for some reason, can't be done. Regulations are put into place for a certain reason. I know you don't want to hear it but it is the military and you do have to abide by there standards. Maybe you know somebody off post that could give the dog a good home and that way you would still be able to visit the dog. Know it sucks but rules are rules.

  5. You'd be wasting your time.  Believe me, that 3-star talked to his JAG and made sure he wasn't violating any laws or regulations before he enacted the ban.  Installation commanders have the authority to issue orders like a ban on Pit Bull Terriers if it's in the interest of safety to those who live on the installation, and with all the bad press Pit Bull Terriers get, that's easy -- yeah, I know it's all about how you train the dog, but someone obviously isn't taking any chances.  Time to salute smartly and press on, soldier.

  6. I agree with LAVADOG, you can't petition everything you don't like.  Plus, seems like a pretty reasonable regulation.

  7. Once they make the decision it is pretty much final.  They have to look at the nature of the types of dogs and unfortunately those dogs have a bad reputation.  I know that other dogs are also on the lists too.  So I am sure other people are upset by it.  If you don't like it then move off post so you don't have to worry about it.
