Can I play back video shot in 30p on a normal miniDV camcorder?

I need to watch some mini-DV tapes shot in 30p. Can I play them on a normal (consumer) mini-DV camera, or would I need one that is also capable of shooting 30p?

Even if I cannot watch them, would I still be able to use the camera to log and capture the tapes?

And will I be able to watch them on my TV if I hook the camcorder up, or does this not effect it at all?

  1. as i understand it, the progressive just means how the CCD was refreshed when shooting (entire frame at a time vs fields). the digital data is filed the same as it would be for interlace. that being the case, then any DV player and TV should work. but i haven't tried it myself.

  2. You certainly should be able to.  I shot 30p material on two different cameras within the last week, and both tapes are playing back just fine on my consumer camcorder and on my TV.
