Can I play my Wii Ware games at a friend's house?

Is it legal to copy my wiiware games to an SD card and take them to play on a friends wii.

No. The Wiiware and VC games you download are coded to your system, so only your system can play them.

The good news is that if you delete one of the games from your Wii, you can redownload it at a later date for free.

While it's theoretically legal to take your Wiiware games to your friend, there is no way to know for sure, that you take your game back with you when you leave your friends house.

Therefore, virtual console games and Wiiware games have a lock, that only the serial number of your console can unlock.

So while you can copy the games to the SD card and another console, you can't play the games on another Wii.

You can copy Wii Ware games to your SD card, and it's perfectly legal.  You cannot, however, play them on a friend's console without first uploading the game to your computer and hacking the file a bit to lose the information that it's peculiar to your own personal wii.
