Can I pour self-leveling concrete over my existing concrete basement floor?

My house is 130 years old and the basement floor is concrete and is crumbling in places and is unlevel in places due to settling over the may years. Can this be the final topcoat? And where can I buy such a product?

  1. There are a number of products like you are describing typically called self-leveling overlays, hydraulic cement underlayment or flowable, polymer-modified cementitious toppings.

Quikrete has a hydraulic cement underlayment product that you might be able to find at Home Depot or similar building materials store.  You may want to add a final surface coating depending on what condition you want the finish floor to be.  A data sheet on this material is at http://www.reedfirstsource.com/m7/docume...

Aother product is Level-X self-leveling, self-smoothing polymer modified cementitious toppings.  I don't know where a homeowner might get it, but maybe there is more info at http://www.edisoncoatings.com/html/Self_...

Another source of info about these products is http://concretedecor.net/Abstracts/CD102...
