Question:

Can I practice martial arts with wrist problems?

Hello all. I've been wanting to try a martial arts class. However, I have problems with my wrists from time to time; I have ganglion cysts. They don't always bother me, but when they flare up, I can't put weight on them in a bent position. Push-ups are out, and I imagine punching and/or grappling wouldn't work too well either.

Is there a particular type of martial arts that would be easier on my wrists?

  1. There will be moves throughout just about every martial art that will be hard on your wrist. Wear a brace, and do the things you can, but push the capabilities of your wrist a little more each time. Your wrist will soon build up strength this way.
