Question:

Can I prevent Yahoogroups from breaking URLs across lines?

Someone in a group I own sent a message to the group that contained a URL. The URL began on a separate line but was moderately long and had a question mark in it. Yahoogroups broke the URL (split it across two lines) at the question mark. Many members of the group are not savvy enough to paste the two parts back together in their browser address window.

Will enclosing URLs in < > symbols prevent this? I've seen conflicting information on this point.

I know that TinyURL and similar services are available, but I would like to avoid asking people to take that extra step.

  1. Enclosing the URLS with symbols will entirely break the link. You could try it for yourself to see what I mean.  Do you think your members would know how to highlight the whole two lines, then copy and paste it into their browser address field?  If not, you might just have to bite the bullet and give them a TinyURL ready for use instead of the link you already provided.  Or have the member who sent the URL get the TinyURL and post it to the group.

  2. Do the tiny URL step for them. Re-post the new tiny URL
