  1. make sure you phone is a triband phone and that it is not locked by you phone company provider; if your phone isnt tri band or your mobile company gives you a hard time to unlock it you can always buy a UNLOCKED phone from EBay for about 100 dollars.  It would be cheaper then buying one in europe because the dollar exchange.

When you get to italy u can go to any mobile phone company (tim, vodafone, t-mobile and there are a few others) store and purchase a sim card for 5 euros. This will give u a phone number and all incoming phone calls are free. If u plan on phoning people than u can add some money on you sim card.

  2. You need a phone with tri-band. There are not very many around. The best company for those is T-mobile.

  3. It's not your sim card that you need to be concerned about.  It's your phone.  NOT all phones work internationally.  Check with your cell phone provider to find out if your phone works in Italy or not.

  4. well, you'll have to buy the Sim card over there and make sure your phone is European GSM compatiable.  US is on a different GSM protocol.

  5. In Europe tri-band cellphones are very normal and not very expensive. So you can buy one in Italy.

  6. My boyfriend had a cell phone over in Italy, and when he came back over here, everyone told him that he can't use it because America isn't up to date with that technology yet.  The person he spoke to also said that we are working on getting it upgraded throughout the country.
