Because I understand that I have a pin number right? Is that used at all during the process or do I need a credit card maybe?

  1. Yes, you should be fine in using your debit card on line and you do not need to provide your PIN that you use at the ATM.

  2. Normally, you can.  I pay my bills online and have no problem. However, you have to give the debit card number in order to complete the transaction.  They may ask for the bank routing number (for the bank that issued the debit card).  If so, this can be obtained from your bank.

  3. You don't need a credit card if you have the money in your account for your purchase.  You can treat your debit card as a credit card for online purchases.

Debit cards work as both ATM cards and through the credit card processing system.  Your debit card should have a Mastercard or Visa symbol on the front.  That means it can be treated as a credit card for making payments but you must realize that the money will be deducted from your checking account immediately.  A debit card in no way entitles you to any line of credit.

You would only use your PIN if you were withdrawing money from an ATM or at some stores if they allowed cash back.  Some debit cards carry bank charges depending on how you use it.  If you're not sure how your bank charges you, give them a call and ask them to explain it so you don't get surprised by charges on your next statement.

    I hope I helped a little.

  4. I have a debit Visa card and I can use it to purchase online.  It has a Visa logo on the front.  I don't need a pin number to use it that way.

  5. as long as your debit card has the visa/ MC logo, you can use it anywhere as a credit card, even online. all you do is enter the account number (this will be the number on the front of your debit card), and the expiration (MM/YY). if you look on the back there will also be the verification code, the last 3 digits after your account number. some websites require this.

  6. Yes, I do all the time.  Not all places ask for the pin number when using a debit card.  On the internet, it'll only ask whether the card is Visa, MC, AMEX, or Discover.  Sometimes it'll ask for the last three digits on the back of the card.
