We have 4 fish and one of the four has developed black spots on his fins that may be a result of ammonia poisoning in the water. Petco told me to buy stress enzyme, which is the good bacteria that fish tanks need to get rid of ammonia in the water, but i want to make sure it is safe to add it into the water with the fish in it. ( or do they need to be taken out for it to settle first??)

  1. do not bother as this stuff will clog up your filters-costing you a lot of money.  Also, it will cause slime to build up on all surfaces in the aquarium.  I tried it and this is what happened immediately.  I was changing the filters every few hours, then, I did a huge water change, cleaned everything, left out the stress zyme and haven't had any problems with the filters or slime buildup since.  However, I am still having serious problems with ammonia, which is why I added the stress zyme to begin with.  In addition to the new problems, this stuff did not help enough with the ammonia levels
