Question:

Can I put a 175/14 tyre on a rim used with a 185/14 tyre?

Some wonderful thief stole a wheel off our campervan. Because of the age and style of the van finding a replacement is difficult (and very expensive) hence why the thief did a free DIY.

We have managed to locate a same model/make/year vehicle for spares, the problem is his vehicle is a different specification (diesel v petrol). His tyres are 185/14 and ours are 175/14.

Is the rim likely to be the same, as same make etc (but can accept either width tyre )?

If it is likely to be a different size rim would you be able to fit a 175/14 on it (or would it be too narrow)? Searching through the internet seems to indicate in some instances a rim can accommodate a small range of widths.

Thank you for any answers or advice.

  1. if the rim fits the camper then just replace the tire with the size of tire you want.... you have  no problem you just need a tire

  2. Yes it well fit ...

The 175 or 185 is the tire size and the 14 is the rim size ..

Your tires should match side to side (left side to right side)  but front to back doesn't much matter.. you can have taller tires in the back than the front. but tire size should be the same on the right side as on the left side.. Left front should be the same size as the right front.. Same for the back

    Take Care

  3. Yes it will fit. The size difference is only 10 mm. You wont' have any problems.
