  1. No, hermit crabs will drown.

Edit: No to the marine crab too - they live in saltwater, Bettas live in fresh water

  2. Land hermit crabs and marine hermit crabs are two different species.

You cannot but a marine hermit crab in with a betta fish because they require different set ups. Marine hermit crabs need a highly filtered salt water aquarium that simulates the ocean.

Betta fish live in fresh water. In the wild they live in highly vegetated areas. in captivity they are unfortunately often kept in unfiltered and cramped bowls that do not allow for proper filtration.

If forced to live in the others habitat the animals would die. A marine hermit crab could not live in a small bowl filled with fresh water. ( Or even a large aquarium filled with fresh water for that matter.) A betta fish cannot survive in salt water.

It wouldn't be a good idea to add a fiddler crab with a betta either. Fiddler crabs need brackish water. Which means they require a mixture of fresh and salt water. Fiddlers will also be agressive towards bettas and likely attempt to eat it.

  3. hermit crabs live out of the water, if what your talking about is a cray fish it will eat your beta.

  4. if you mean land hermit crabs

then no, they cant live under water..hints LAND hermit crab

but their are hermit crabs that live under water. like this one

i cant say for sure if they can live with a betta though, i would think not. because most if not all sea hermit crabs live in salt water.

    hope this helps
