  1. If your fish doesnt eat the cup, then it will be fine.

Just don't let the fish get under there, or it'll die. You can get a prettyful hiding spot for a couple of dollars at petco.

  2. Yes of course, you can! but make sure cup is well raised by water (no chemicals) because if u washed it with washing up liquid and don't raise it well, it will be left chemical in) anyway, make sure ground gravel are inside cup as well so fish wouldn't go under it

  3. Hi, this is a great idea because Goldfish love exploring & hiding so a small container on it's side is an excellent cave/bedroom. I would advise using a glass tumbler or ceramic mug rather than plastic because plastic may contain unknown toxins.

  4. That is a very sweet question, you are a conscientious fish owner!

The cup and the fish should be just fine.  If you're worried about chemicals leaching into the water, like Bisphenol A (the stuff in the hard plastic water bottles), you shouldn't be concerned.  Chemicals are released into the water only after they've been scratched, or experience extremes in temperature (boiling/freezing) AND your plastic cup is most not this type of plastic.  What is the number on the bottom of the cup?  Try not to put a #3,6, or 7 in there...

Here's a GREAT little bit of info for you from national geographic:

    1. Steer Clear of PVC vinyl (#3), whose manufacture and incineration releases carcinogenic dioxins into the environnment and food chain. PVC often contains lead, and toxic plasticizers such as phthalates that can migrate into food, water, air and our mouths.

    2. Avoid plastics that leach chemicals suspected of disrupting hormone functions: #3 (PVC), #6 (PS), #7 ("Other," often polycarbonate).

Don't forget to wash the cup once in a while, just like you do the rest of the decorations in the tank to get rid of algae buildup.

    Bye!

  5. how in the world would a plastic cup make a fish sick?

  6. Yeah, I think if the cup isn't dirty or anything, it would be fine. I just think when you clean the tank, clean that cup too. Make sure the cup doesn't have any pointy or broken parts that will damage the fish. Best of luck!

  7. sure you can just make sure you clean it really well

  8. plastic itself should be of no harm to the fish.. but yes clean it well.. but MORE IMPORTANT.. make sure to rinse it really well.. meaning make sure there is NO soap residue or cleaner residue on it.

as any soap residue can kill fish.

I would also suggest cutting a small hole in cup (file down rough edges) for the fish to swim through, so it has more then just the "top" for come out of.

    Good Luck, Happy Fish Hiding!
