  1. doesnt a salamander need air? rocks to be out of the water too?

  2. You probably just released harmful bacteria and fungus into your fish tank by placeing the salamander in there.  For the safety of your fish I would take the salamandor out and keep a close eye on your fish.   The salamandor if big enough could try and eat your goldfish.  Salamandor from my understanding eat minnows

  3. You should separate the salamader from the tank. If you plan to keep the salamander, get a 10 gallon tank and make it so that there is at least enough water for it to swim on, but give it some land too to crawl on, like a large stone or platform. You can pick up salamander food at your local pet store. It will die if you keep it in with the goldfish.

  4. You should release the salamander back in the lake where it came from. Taking animals from their natural habitat is not a good thing. It would be better for the salamander to return it.

As a tankmate for goldfish, it is not a good one. And no, they will not eat flakes. The salamander needs live prey, such as earthworms and other insects. It will not realize flakes is food, and it will starve.

Edit: Koolio Vegan, salamanders are not tropical creatures. If they were, then explain why they are native to regions in Canada? I was certainly not aware Canada was a tropical climate, and I am sure Canadians would be most shocked to learn they were living in a tropical climate!

  5. No it will not be fine. If you do not know the species you should not be keeping it. Plus there are toxins in its skin that could kill your goldfish overtime. You would also need to feed it live bugs, like crickets. AND it needs a land area to live in. 1 last reason why it should not be in there, it is a tropical species (all salamanders are) and goldfish need colder water.

  6. keeping wild caught amphibians is cruel here's why

ok some wild caught (WC) phibs just die im captivity no real reason it just happens add this the number that die from stress stress related disease then ur hitting quite a high number. also wc phibs have shortened lifespans stress related behavior disorders and tend to get ill easy. wc almost never have a good quality of life its cruel to the animal.

salamanders arent as easy to keep as some people think, i dunno who this culture has emerged that thinks slamanders are as easy to keep as fish but there not they require specific care

finally disease and parasites are an issue. some phibs carry disease that can be passed onto humans but the main risk is to other salamanders or in your case fish. when phibs are placed in a tank together disease can run writhe and making for an unpleasant environment add this too there lowered immune system due to the stress of being snatched from the wild and u have a recipe for disaster

also im guessing u have no idea what species this is most aren't full aquatic need air and land to live. finally skin toxin may kill off your other fish.

as for food NO THEY WONT EAT FISH FLAKES. they need livefoods such as earthworms mealworms crickets slugs snails etc.

look these arent toys and u clearly have no clue what so eva with what your doing. most sensible normal people research there pets the buy one from a store not snatch one out of the wild with no knowledge of what to do with it. what your doing is cruel immoral and ill advised to put it politely put it back where u found it

  7. the salamander would not be able to live in a tank. As an amphibian it also needs land to roam and walk on. Also it will need live bait as food. And since you have already taken it out of it's natural environment, it probably won't survive very long as it is.  If you want to keep it for a long period of time you should create a new habitat for it to give it a more familiar area to live it. And also get other salamander to keep it company.
