Question:

Can I put an arowana with a bunch of cichlids in an 80g tank?

I want to decorate my tank with real plants and most likely having a DIY background having fake rocks. The tank full of African Cichlids would look really nice but I want to add an arowana to the picture. If I get it small, and just feed it pellets and not live food, would it harm or eat my Cichlids when it grows bigger?

  1. The cichlids will bug it to death if it is small.  When it gets larger, the 80G tank will be far to small for it. You'll need to be somewhere in the 250G range.

  2. My greatest concern would be the Arowana. If you buy it small, the cichlids may actually hurt the Arowana... As well, it is not fair (or healthy) to feed a natural piscivore pellets only.

On another note... don't waste your money on real plants... the cichlids will just eat it. The only plant that hasn't been eaten by my cichlids is java fern... at first they nibbled at it, but eventually they left it alone.

  3. if you get the arrowana to small the cichlids may kill it and if they are to small as he grows he will eat them so the best anwser is this is not a good idea

  4. Cichlids tend to be aggressive and may pick fights with the other fish. It is best to keep cichlids with other cichlids.

  5. Listen dude, I've sat there and TOLD you already, you CANNOT keep an Arowana in an 80 gallon tank.  You think I made that up for the h**l of it?  Why are you insisting on keeping a fish that is long going to outgrow that tank?  I've kept South Americans with Africans, and it's not really an issue.  What most people fail to understand here is two things.  If your Africans are Mbuna types, they will stay down and lower in the substrate, so you don't get interaction with a fish like an Arowana.  If they are more open water Hap types, these are generally the more peaceful types as it is, so the concern over an Arowana and Africans is unfounded actually.

The biggest issue is YOUR TANK IS TOO SMALL.  It was that way the last time you mentioned keeping Koi and Arowana togeather, and it's the same god dam way now too.  YOU NEED A BIGGER TANK LUNKHEAD.
