Can I put hot sauce on the bars so my gerbils wont chew on them?

well you should try because i tried using tabasco and it worked for a while but i think it stopped because they got used to it. the gerbils were from mexico anyways so maybe that has something to do with it. get some jabanero sauce and use that and email me if it works.

i hope it doesnt hurt them

definatley dont do that..it prob will kill them..u can buy these wheels of like salt or something to put on the bars and they chew on that instead.......u can get them at like petco

...with a human our body can handle the kind of strain it puts on us.... but a gerbil might have attacks if its introduced to that kind of radical change..

Yes, but some gerbils like the taste of hot sauce(like mine) and will chew them even more, but it wont hurt the gerbil any

You could do it but if they are bothering you that much, get them a tank instead of their cage

The best thing you should do is just to take off the cage part. Chewing on the metal bars can be harmful to your gerbils, as is can cut their noses and that can become infected.

If you do take the cage part off, just add some toys to the aquarium and they should be fine. To cover up the tank you should use a screen (like those in windows) to cover it up so you gerbils can have air and make sure you secure it well enough so that your gerbils can't get out.

I've learned this from experience.

i dont know how good that would be for them but i do they have stuff just for that! i think its called sour apple spray, its ussually used for puppies and cats but i would ask around at a pet store if they have it and if its goood for gerbils! good luck!

EDIT: or maybe you could get them some chew sticks if you are worried about them chewing on the cage :)

I don't see why it matters that they chew on the bars. Mine do it all the time, I figure they're just wearing down their teeth.

The hot sauce probably won't hurt them but I don't see why you would do it in the first place.

Give them something else to chew on?

It's good you show enough concern to ask something like that before you do it.  

I'm not sure if it'll be reactive to your gerbils, but you can always find online vet sites and quick answer guides to stuff like that.

hot sauce can and will hurt them badly, it can kill them and most likely will kill the poor little ones. the ingrediants in hot sauce is really bad or hampsters gerbils and well most all other animals...hope this helps.

Yes, a gerbil is much smaller than us and that may harm there small bodies

they are probably just bored or there teeth or getting to long , try giveing them a toilet paper roll or pumice stone which you can find specially made for rodents in pet stores

Don't use hot sauce.  You really shouldn't worry too much about them chewing on the bars unless it's hurting their teeth or there is toxic paint on it.  If it does bother you, try using a small amount of white viniger or bitter apple spray.
