Can I put in an basement egress window that projects only 35 inches from the foundation? Tips or ideas?

My driveway has a curb on one side. I want to put an egress window well in a basement window, but the curb is 35 inches from the foundation wall. I know this goes against the code of 36 inches, but assuming I can get a local variance, can I find a product that will work? If I can, are there headaches I'm not thinking of?

Doubt you will be allowed a variance. Egress window sizes are determined by the amount of room needed for a firefighter in full equipment to be able to enter the window. If they allowed 34", the next person would want 33" allowed.
