  1. You need to eliminate the source. Use the Yahoo answer search, and search pantry moths.  Moth balls won't work.  The ONLY way is to eliminate the source.  The eggs are in almost any dried food you have in the pantry.

  2. Do you know what moth balls smell like ?

(I didn't know they had any!)

  3. I would use Cedar block and lay them near the flour and grains pancake batter. You can find them around the ironing boards in Target or walmarts, They are much safer and do smell better, If you cannot find them then try and get some Pet bedding for guinea pigs and stuff some in an onion bag or some nylon stockings and lay them around the cabinet or pantry, they look like fake potatoes, You could get creative with the nylons. Use small hair ties and make faces with the cedar bedding make little ball for eyes and put the small hair ties on to hold them and tie the head up like an onion hair doo and hang then up all around the house and outside too this will help keep bugs from getting in the house, See if the shoe stores will give you some, the ones people with out sock put on before the try on shoes. get the kids to help make them so they won't take them and tell them what they are for. And why is sk820 looking at the moths ball anyways

  4. The type of moths in the pantry will sometimes just ignore moth balls. Moth balls will impart an unpleasant taste in may food products-through the box and all. The balls are also poison so you really should keep them away from food.

The best thing I have found are Pantry Pest Traps. These use pheremones and a sticky surface. The moths go into the traps and can not get out. I bought mine at Agway but Home Depot carries them as well and many garden centers.

Other things to do: rid yourself of any obvious infestations. Anything that has little webs or the like in it needs to be sealed in plastic and thrown away.

Anything that has been in the pantry can be frozen for several days and when bringing new items home it is wise to freeze them as well. This will kill anything that may be in it.

Seal dog food, cat food or bird seed in air tight containers. These are one of the leading causes of infestations (bird seed was my problem).

You may wish to purchase air tight containers for cereals, crackers, etc or store them in larger sized zipper bags until you get the infestation under control.

  5. Moth balls have such a bad smell. I wouldn't. Use Skin So Soft by Avon. I have a parrot and before I stored her food in the freezer, I stored her seeds in the cabinet. I started getting little moths. Some one told me to clean the cabinet and then rub skin so soft on the inside doors. I did it and it got rid of them. I passed it on to another person and they agree it works.  Also I don't put oatmeal, cornbread mix or flour in the cabinets. Hope this helps.
