I got married in Sept 06.. and my became pregnant in Nov 07. We are expecting our son in 6 weeks and I'm having an issue where I meant to change my name with social security to my married name.. waiting till the last minute.. and my husband lost my passport which I need to get it done. Is a marriage license enough to get my name on the birth certificate under my married name?? Our insurance has me under my maiden name because it has to match my social security number. I'm not sure how the birth certificate works. I hope to find the passport and somehow get it done in time.. but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone?

  1. I know in my state the married name of the mother does Not go on the birth certificate.  It's the mother's maiden name that is used!

You are married by the decree of the marriage license whether you change your last name or not on any "official" documents.

  2. you are supposed to put your maiden name on a birth certificate either way....they didn't even ask for my married name, only maiden!
