  1. haven't tried this...  but it might work

    There are 3 types of files on miniDvD disc=>.vob, .ifo & .bup. IFO is an index file containing navigational info, i.e., where a video chapter begins & where audio & subtitle streams exist w/in the movie (VOB) file. Only the video.vob file is used for editing - convert if not supported.

    >>> Import VOB files (mpeg2) directly using  Power Director http://video-editing-software-review.top...

    Or use .FREE. Windows movie maker (entry-level editor bundled w/ XP or Vista)

    Unfortunately, .vob is not supported by wmmaker.

    Convert video.vob files to avi or wmv first before import to editing app.

    =>Try Prism or Kates (free video converter)

    - google, download & open app

    - set supported output format/resolution (avi; wmv) & pc folder destination

    - insert FINALIZED DvD disc to pc drive

    - add video.vob files from DvD folder/Video_TS

    - click convert...converted files are saved to set pc folder

    - import converted files to wmm

    for starters, free Windows Movie Maker* (Vista/wmm6 & XP/wmm2) provides simple & easy way to learn the ropes < click help for details>

    video editing process- Vista/wmm6

    >>> open wmm- start/all programs/wmm->TASK pane

    1. Import converted video files** - also import music as u wish

    2. Edit- drag/drop video files->timeline & enhance w/effects, transition, music & titles

    3. Publish (render)- save Movie (OK for youTube), also, save Project.msmmw file

    >>> Share=>auto-shifts to WindowsDvD authoring app->burn to miniDvD

    Similarly: XP/wmm2- Capture/Edit/Finish- DvD authoring app, e.g.,DvD Flick or Nero

  2. If you're prepared to buy an editor, you could use AVS Video Editor and just burn an 8cm DVD .

    It's not straightforward if you want to use free software.  You could rip the DVD to your hard drive with DVDDecrypter, convert it to WMV with Super, edit the .wmv files with Windows Movie Maker and burn the resulting video to 8cm DVD with DVD Flick.  I wouldn't expect brilliant quality!!
