Can I quiet down a 1976 honda xr75 dirt bike? It has a solid pipe and muffler.Can't find a new muffler.?

I've tried to find a new muffler to no avail and it would probably be pretty loud if I do. Can I cut the old muffler off and do anything to it that would quiet it down? My kids are driving the neighbors crazy.

they made a lot of those I bet you can still get parts from Honda.

Try the link below.  They have a replacement muffler for this bike.  Price is $116.  You can drill down threw the menus until you find the parts listings for your bike.

Or, to find the part fast.  Open the link below, click on "Original Honda" on the left-hand side of the page.  On the page this link opens, find "Quick Search"  Use the drop down box to enter the brand Honda.  In the search for box, enter 0384644   This will bring you directly to a page where you can select and order your muffler.

Be careful with the gasket that connects the exhaust pipe to the cylinder head as these are no longer available.  If you damage the gasket you will need to improvise and find another gasket that fits.

usually those things have this fiberglass packing material inside the muffler. Over time it gets soaked with oil and it stops quieting the bike at all.  You can actually replace that stuff. You just have to unscrew and pull off the cover, pull out all the old broken down baffling material and replace it with new fluffy clean material. It makes a big difference.

try J&P cycles.com you might be able to find a slip-on supertrapp exhaust pipe end that could solve your problem with the neighbors

Go to JC Whitney motorcycle parts web site, then see if one of their solutions will fit,  You can cut the original off and weld in a car muffler if you think it would help.

Or you could just tell the kids that they are annoying the neighbors and until they get it quieter they may not ride it or do not ride it in your neighborhood.
