I have been working as a salesman for 4 years at my job. Recently a part of the sales staff got promoted to the sales manager. This guy is a snake and we never got along. Now, he is riding me and every single thing I do, he tries to make my life a living h***. He is always right no matter what, even if I prove him wrong. I understand authority but its just a little over the top at this point and I've had it. I am totally disgusted with my job right now. Can I get unemployment compensation on this basis if I would quit? I think he is trying to get me to quit so they don't have to pay. I truly think its a personal vendeda now to try to get me out of there. Anyways, thanks for your answers.

  1. Once again all these previous posters have no idea about how unemployment works!!! Stop giving these askers bad advice !!!! d**n!!  You can ABSOLUTELY get Unemployment if you quit  BUT:::  if you quit you will have to go to a hearing and PROVE you had a compelling reason to quit AND that you have exhausted all options in trying to resolve the problem.... so that means you have to go and talk to (using the chain of command) all of management until it can be resolved or not resolved .. if it can not be resolved and you quit .. you will have to convince the  moderator at the hearing that you had no options left .) its not as hard as it sounds... just tell the truth... also its good to document  the dates and times and discussions of all the management you talk to  and what they said !  GOOD LUCK!!

  2. If you quit your job. You can't get unemployment benefits. If you get fired then you can get unemployment benefits

If your boss is harassing you on the job. It's not right that he's harassing you and causing you problems. You should discuss your concerns with him and make it clear to him that he needs to stop his harassing behavior.

You can report him to another boss that is higher on the chain of command. Otherwise, You should start looking for another job. When you have another job lined up. Let your boss know that you are resigning effective immediately.

  3. No you cannot get unemployment if you just up and quit, even though that is what your boss seems to be trying to get you to do.

  4. You can't get unemployment benefits if you quit.

    Just get another job.

  5. No. You have to becanned and that is never good on a resume.  Hang in there and look for another job -- just DON't use work time, computers or telephones to do it.
