Question:

Can I re-gift an unused gift card?

Received a large gift card for birthday that I've never used. Turns out it's for the same place my friend is registered. I feel kind of cheap not having to actually spend any money on a gift and know cash would be better but I have it so why not give it? Thoughts?

  1. Regardless of the amount of the gift card you are technically spending money on the gift. It is money you would have bought you something with. If you don't tell her she really doesn't need to know. It is the thought that counts.

  2. I personally don't like re-gifting, but in t his case, I think it would be perfectly fine...As long as she isn't the one who gave you the gift card! haha.

  3. for sure

  4. I would use the gift card to get something off of her registry.

  5. You can exchange it for a brand new gift card of your choice at www.giftcardrescue.com

  6. I don't think it's a bad thing to use it on your friend.  If I were you, I'd use the gift card to purchase things from her registry rather than just give her the gift card.  For some reason, tangible gifts always seem more personal (even if they're from a registry).

  7. I think in this case, it would be OK to give your friend the card.

  8. I think it would be a good idea or you could use the gift card and get her something off her registry with a gift coupon so that if she wants to she can take it back to the store and receive cash for it ....

  9. sure....she will never know...Also its no money out of your pocket =)

  10. I think that is a smart idea.  All u have 2 do is go to like walmart or a dollar store and buy a gift card sleeve so that u can write her name on  it

  11. i think it's ok to re-gift and unused gift card. i mean if you're not going to use it, may as well give it someone who will. uh ... just don't let the reciever find out ...

  12. Well no one has to know and its better to pass it on then never use it.  Just don't be too cheap-buy another something to go with it!

  13. As long as there's no way you could be found out, I say do it!

I've done it before. Otherwise gift cards given to me by people who don't really know me well enough to buy a real gift, just wind up sitting in my wallet forever.  My boss is the worst because she thinks she knows everyone in the office so well.  She always picks out the gift card that we give for birthdays, etc.  Some of us have actually formed a secret club where we continually regift the same few gift cards.  We then take the money and give it to the person so that she/he can buy what she/he really wants.

  14. sounds like a great idea..

  15. Could the person that gave it to you possibly be at her wedding? If so, then she might tell them what you gave her and they might say, "hey, I gave her that on her birthday" then you are busted. Are you really that broke? If so, then go ahead, it is after all, yours to give. If not, then give a gift from the heart, don't be cheap, she is after all, your friend.

  16. i would give it.......

  17. yeah, why not?

    whoever gave it

    to you GAVE IT

    TO YOU, it yours

    now, so its yours to

    give away i just wouldnt

    tell your friend you re-

    gifted her gift.

  18. sure and if you are caught you can say you enjoyed it so much that you wanted to share it with her/him
