Two years ago, I got a hp. Then last christmas I bought vista for my hp. Well, my hp's motherboard blew out and the lap top is now scrap metal. Since the computer is totally GONE, can I re-sell vista to a friend and have it go onto their comp with no problem? I want to see it because I just got a brand new mac book and no way in heck is vista going to get anywhere near it. Thank you.

  1. the good guy answer for this is no your not supposed to re-sell software because then Microsoft loses money. The other answer to this would be yes you could sell/give your vista disk to someone as long as the codes are given with it (the case of the disk).

  2. I beg to differ from most of the previous answer in that I think you are technically entitled to re-sell your copy of Vista.

PROVIDED that you do not make a copy for yourself and use that. Then yours become a pirated version.

Practically anything can be re-sold, but in some cases, like this one (or other software) it means that you must sell the original and in the process deny yourself to any use of it in any form.

    Does that make sense?

The short answer: Yes. You may re-sell the original. (But not keep any part of it for yourself)

PS. Did I say "short answer"? Lol

    Happy computing :)

  3. umm... well, no. Because you can only use Vista on one computer.

  4. Well, technically no. It would be a violation of the EULA. You never owned vista, you were only licensed to use it by microsoft.

However, if you never registered it, you shouldn't have any trouble. And even then, I wouldn't be too concerned if the vista was a legit copy installed on one computer.

So really, you're not supposed. But it's not the most illegal thing you could do.
