Question:

Can I really give my opinion on eco-friendly things if...?

I'm not majoring in the subject.

Here's my situation. I'm starting a zine about my community, health topics, and eco-friendly topics. My friends are focusing on the other two, while I'm focusing on the third. I'm trying to educate myself by reading things online, but I'm no scientist (I'm 19 by the way). You think people will criticize me for not being some scientist or a person majoring on this subject and say I'm not one to talk about this if I give tips, write about eco-friendly topics and things like that on the GREEN subject?

  1. Just read lots of books on the topic.  There are tons of great books out there.  If you have a university near by you can get their first year environmental science textbook and it will give you all the "education" you will need.

  2. Of course not! They are lucky to have someone such as yourself around to give tips and inform. You should do some research, yeah, but not everyone wants hardcore numbers and facts, because no one should expect that from you.

Plus it's a zine, and it's yours to do with what you want.

It's your art and you're choosing to use it to inform and help out in your community. That's more than the average person can say I bet. :)

You've inspired me. I want to start one now. Haha.

  3. You are essentially a reporter. Do you think that reporters on the news majored in everything that they have to report on? Do journalists major in everything they have to write about?

Don't worry about it, just research things well and fact check your tips.   :)
