I have a Toshiba Satellite M70-394, when i turn in on it says

'windows could not start because the following files are missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\system32\c_437.nls'

However I have lost my reboot CD as the laptop is quite old and i need to find one from somewhere or find a way of rebooting the laptop back to factory settings without a CD

Can someone please please help me......!

  1. try going to Toshiba's customer support web site.  click on support enter your model / make details

on the left hand side of the page depending on where you are in the world..

Here it is US products click on the down arrow and then click on laptops  you will see

move down to service and support click on drivers download the drivers you want. or click on tech support for help

If you can't get a restore cd from Toshiba then you could always download and install Linux operating system which is far superior to what you have been using...

if you give me details of your computer then I will inform you which version to download you will get all the software you will ever need with the operating system. for free.

  2. Without the CD it will be hard for you to reinstall the corrupted or missing files. But try to start it in safe mode pressing F8 on post or before the Logo appears then do a System Restore dates earlier before this failure occured. I hope this will work.

  3. The word you're looking for is "reformat" not "reboot" and yes you will need either your CD or another CD and a copy of your CD key (or an illegal CD key if you wish) to reinstall the operating system.

You may be able to simply repair windows with a borrowed CD, or you may be able to boot the computer in safe mode and do a system restore to fix the issue.
