  1. Yes you can,

if you live in australia there is a special on at aldi supermarkets you Can get a 42inch  plasma for 1,300 and it has a built in HD tuneer

  2. Yes, broadcast stations, such as ABC, NBC, Fox, and CBS all broadcast high-definition over the air, so as long as your television has an ATSC(digital) tuner it can receive those channels.

  3. Sometimes.

It sort of depends on your cable provider.  Some basic channels are available without the box.  Ask your cable costumer service.

  4. yes if your tv has an atsc tuner.

  5. Since you asked about cable, I will assume you have cable.

ATSC tuners are for Over The Air reception ONLY.  Digital cable systems use QAM.  So, if your set does have a QAM tuner and you purchase the Digital cable service, then yes, your set should be able to receive the HD broadcasts.

The cable box may be needed for premium services like Pay Per View movie channels or other conditional access channels.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
